discipline of the office and whilst exercising a general

supervision over all and dealing with all cases of work of

special nature as such arise, I also devote my time in the Correspondance Office to such work as the following 1 – (a). Taking verbal instructions from D.P.W. and preparing

letters or minutes in accordance with such and subsitting same for his signature. Such correspondence concerns both the Public and Government Departments. (b). Drafting correspondence (letters or minutes to Govern- ment Departments and letters to Public) and submitting such for D.P.'s approval or otherwise. This particu- larly refers to correspondence involving reference to money matters or accounts, and the drafting is usually done before the papers have been put before the D.P.w. (c). Personally deal with ("pro D.P.W.") and complete such

Inter-Departmental papers and returns as do not neces- sarily require reference to, and personal treatment by,

the D.P.W.

(d). Personally interview callera in the office on matters

which do not require the D.P.W's own personal attention.

(e). Frequently deputed by D.P.M. to call on his behalf on

members of the Public, on matters of public business,

to obtain information anent such, or act in some other

Way.

(r). Collect and supply D.P.W. with material for his Armual

Report and for the many other reports, &c. and correspon

ence generally, as required.

(g). Owing to my long connection with the office, I am oor

sulted on non-technical matters of Government busin

chiefly procedure and precedents or some matter of

"ancient history" involving local and departmental

knowledge.

These interviews and consultations are constant and

concern officers generally, from the D.P.V. downwards,
